Fast and the Furious: The Fate of the Furious 2017:

The Fate of the Furious, Fast 8, F8 or Fast and the Furious 8 (Whew, apparently different countries got different movie names), is a action movie and the next addition in the Fast and Furious movie franchise which still has two more movies on the horizon.

Staring Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham in a heart pounding, action packed, CGI dripping cross nation espionage explosion!

The movie has a running time of about 2 hours, and let me just say that I enjoyed it! It was a crazy, ridiculous massively wild ride with energy that would make Bruce Lee round house kick out his grave and with explosions that would make Michael Bay moist.

The movie picks up from where we left the team, after the tragic passing of Paul Walker and that ending scene, I feel most of us felt it was the end of a era. Most of us have been watch the series since primary school, as big clever adults, it felt as if though, the old Fast and the Furious was gone. What is now in it’s place is a team of renegades and rebels, hired by┬áHobbs (The Rock) for impossible missions that only they can get done!

Fast and The Furious:

The Film, The Effects and the Story:

This entire movie is a stunning cinematic explosion driven action show! The effects in this movie, as usual are out of this world, and something that the Fast and the Furious franchise has become known for.

Expect to have your mouth open for some of the scenes because it can get a little ridiculous, but if you’re a fan of the series like me, try not to think too much about the physics and just enjoy the ride!

When it comes to the story, I know a lot of my friends were worried about it. Seeing our hero Dom turning his back on the one thing that matters most to him: Family! It was a dramatic trailing viewing for a lot of us. But, when you watch the movie, you’ll realised that nothing about what Dom values has changed, if anything, it matters more.

The overall flow and concept of the story I felt was a touch forced. I mentioned to Richard as we left the cinema that the movie felt unnecessary for the overall plot, and I think that’s the old Fast and the Furious nostalgia coming back. When I thought about it some more, the plot made sense, Charlize Theron’s character made sense considering the entire ethos of what Dom and his team had been up to in the past three movies.

You know the characters so well, and the Fast and the Furious formula so well that I thought the ending wasn’t anything new. Which, is why we pay for the ticket, the concept of what FatF is: family, loyalty, hope and freedom, all still relate strongly to it’s viewers, even if a large majority of the film felt more like a spy/action movie than a street racing movie.

The plot, made sense yes, even if only to set up the sequel and the final: Fast 10.

Paying Money for a Ticket?

No, this isn’t the Fast and the Furious movie we’ll remember in a year, it was a produce, created to please a crowd in love with it’s characters and with explosions and fast cars and short skirts. Which is fine.

This is a new era for the Fast and the Furious franchise, one that will see two more sequels of equal or more insane effects and familial heroism. I cannot wait!

Should you pay for a ticket (That super over priced expensive ticket Numetro/Ster-Kinekor), yes, if you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll find everything you wanted from this movie, likewise if you’re a fan of over the top action, The Rock, Vin Diesel or Jason Statham.

If you’re looking for a meaningful movie, similar to what Fast 5 tried to be, you won’t find it here.

Sit back, enjoy it!
